Vermont in 2022 looked pretty much like Vermont in 2021, and that’s a good thing. Landscape photographers take full advantage of Vermont’s beauty throughout the four seasons. Winters are harsh, Spring is wet and green, summers are hot, and autumn is … well, everyone knows about autumn in Vermont. Like the other Vermont photographers, I captured as much of this beauty as possible.
Vermont landscape photography is different from landscape photography in other locations. Vermont does not have iconic vista locations like the national parks out west. A Vermont photographer needs to have a more nuanced eye. Vermont professional photographer Kurt Budliger often remarks that Vermont photography is like an English muffin; it’s about the nooks and crannies. As stated, Vermont is about the small scenes, not the grand iconic views. This is the type of photography I enjoy. It allows for more unique captures instead of the iconic sights that thousands of photographers capture.
I did not add any new equipment of note this year, but I made an effort to use all my gear. This includes using my drone more and always having my infrared camera. I was pleasantly surprised by the images I captured. Looking back on 2022, I was personally happy with my results. Even if I did not know it then, the results made all the frozen fingers’ icy paths and wet soggy hikes worth it in the end.
That said, the gallery below contains all my favorite photos from 2022. I provide the same disclaimer in this annual post. These are my favorites; it does not mean these are great or even good photos, just my favorites. They are shown in no particular order.
