This year has been like no other in modern history. The reasons are universally known, so no need to go into detail here. Every corner of society has been affected, that includes amateur photography. The commercial businesses operate with reduced schedules and customers; the state parks, forest, and woodlands remain as scenic and welcoming as ever. Lesser crowds at some of the more popular locations did make things a bit easier and less complicated.
Pandemic aside, my goal in 2020 was to find interesting and impactful images around the State. This is always my goal. My efforts amount to half a dozen trips to Vermont throughout the year. This is less than my normal ten or eleven trips in an average year. My biggest challenge is to best use my limited time to find the best location in the best light/conditions. I like bad weather, especially just as it starts or just after it ends. Photography at the edges, as I like to call it. It could be either edge of a storm or at the edges of the day -pre-dawn/sunset.
This year allowed me to get some conditions in each season. I was present for some heavy winter snows, vibrant wet spring days, and foggy autumn mornings.
The criteria for selection to the list remains the same as prior years. These are my personal favorites. I do not claim that these photos are great (or even good) images. They’re my favorites for any one of the reasons. They could represent a memory of a misty beautiful morning on a lake or the solitude of a fresh woodlands snowfall. Whatever the reason and for better or worse, these are my choices.
